Today we spent the entire day organising our diary for MBFWA and running around the whole of Sydney to catch up with designers for a bit of browsing through their design pieces and have only now stopped to have a proper meal (don’t try this at home!)
Fashion Fondue is very excited to be invited to a range of shows across the week and want to thank Manning Cartell, Jayson Brunsdon, Ayaka Ichikawa of Aquintic, Surface Too Deep, Skye and Staghorn, Betty Tran and others for their invitation.
As always, the show will last for no more than 10 minutes (can you imagine? After months and months of preparation it’s all over in a matter of minutes) but the thousands of photos, press, reviews and blog posts it’ll generate will last for weeks and years to come.
Held at Carriageworks in Redfern this year, many in the industry are skeptical about the change of location. Some buyers are not even bothering to turn up at all, which is reasonable given they are also invited to a private re-see after the show anyway. Previously held at Overseas Passenger Terminal at Circular Quay, models walked against the backdrop of the water, Opera House and Harbour Bridge – a picture perfect postcard Sydney.
My opinion? Everyone’s going to get robbed/ lost/ drenched in the rain this year. I will most likely stack it in my Louboutins face first. There is, however, a whole lot more space which will accomodate a much larger audience – maybe that’s why I’m invited, teehee!
Carriageworks consists of 3 main spaces: The Runway, The Box and The Theatre, all of varying sizes. On-location shows shows such as Romance Was Born, Manning Cartell and Lisa Ho is presumably held offsite while Sass&Bide is barely involved in MBFWA, being listed as a Private Event on the official MBFWA Schedule. Dion Lee and Josh Goot made the right move to concentrate on the international schedule instead.
Despite the shitty weather forecast, prospect of broken heels, fear of being banished to the standing area, the entire industry is focussed on this one week.
Fashion Fondue is excited to be part of MBFWA and look forward to posting all about it.
Stay tuned peeps!
